H.M. Queen Sonja is Norges Vel's high protector.
Norges Vel has had royal protection since April 1810. Shortly after the conception of "Norwegian Society for Development" the 29th of december 1809, the society was allowed to call itself «The Royal Norwegian Society for Development» by King Frederik VI. He also put the charity under his «…allerhøyeste beskyttelse» (highest protection). This protection is something the royal family has kept to this day
