About Norges Vel

The Royal Norwegian Society for Development (Norges Vel) is a independent nonprofit organisation that aspires to promote thriving local communities where people can reside, work and live their lives.

We are a unique partner for local economic development and value creation. Idea generation, entrepreneurship, cooperation and commercialisation are key aspects of our development work Internationally and in Norway. Our goal has always been to help develop independent commercial players that contribute to further growth in their local communities.

All our activities are carried out on a not-for-profit basis, and all the values created through our efforts will thereby be used to benefit various local players.

We engage in economic development on a not-for-profit basis. We do this because we believe that economic development and adding value at the local level are the best means to achieve our goal of dynamic, vigorous local communities.

Norges Vel is Norway's oldest nation-wide member organisation, engaging in local development work ever since 1809.

Since 1978, we have also worked with industrial development at the international level, not least in several countries in Africa. Here, too, the goal is to help develop independent, profitable players that can progress from self-sufficiency to economic development.

Vision and values

Norges Vel's vision is to contribute to vigorous local communities in Norway and abroad. Our values are the promotion of sustainable development based on a social, 'green' and financially sound platform. We believe in participative democracy, equitable distribution and equality.

All the work done by Norges Vel supports one or more of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
